The History of Celtic Sunrise
(A Never-ending Story...)

The first few enthusiastic young men, who fell in love with this dance met first in December, 1999. In the guestbook of a related homepage – www.celtic.hu – it was revealed, that there are many, who like Irish dance and music. There were about 40 people on the first practice lesson, everyone different in age. At this time – in January, 2000. – the Celtic Sunrise was created, and coordinated by these enthusiastic people. Everyone practiced with huge efforts, and soon, the work had its results. The group was asked to perform on smaller events.

The pieces of the show were built on well-known international shows, and on the lessons, a stable group of performers was formed.

The milestone – and a very great event for the performers – was the Hungarian – Italian football game in Népstadion, (2nd September, 2000.), where the group could introduce itself to the more than 60.000 visitor. In the brake the group made an impressive performance.

At this time, the former choreographer of the group chose another way, and the group itself was reformed. Despite this, with the help of the two young lead dancers, and the group leader, the renewed Celtic Sunrise could go on with the performances. More new choreographies were made, and more performances came.

The Karnevál Dance Association helped the group in its enhancement. The peak of the cooperation was the Irish Step Festival in March, 2001, which was the first in Hungary. The members of the group took part not only in the performance, but also in the organization. The host of the event was the Petőfi Csarnok, and also the media (newspapers, leading commercial televisions, radios) was paying attention to the event and the group.

A new turning point in the life of the group was that Catherine Gallagher Irish step dancer undertook a part of the choreographer's job, and by this, the members could get authentic Irish knowledge.

Almost at the same time, we were invited to join the Oktogon Dance Center. It was a great honor to be invited by László Bóbis (two time world Champion in american step), who was the art director of Oktogon at that time. This way we could deliver our show to more and more people with the help of the Center.

In April, 2002. the group – after completing a major task – was reformed again, including new dancers, new choreographers. János Kegye – world-wide known pan's pipes artist, with 13 internationally published CDs – asked the group to cooperate. With this cooperation the group could take part in a Hungarian tour, with (for example) TV2's Road Show. In this cooperation the group made a series of choreographies adapted to the newly published CD, and it also creates the ground for a 90 minute common show.

Above this we also work to keep the up the unique style of the group. So in the last years we went through a series of renewals, and although our show is unchanged in style, we have made several new choreographies. This includes that from the beginning of 2003, two violin players joined the group.
This resulted in new and successful performances, but the renewals are not over.
We still have surprises.
